The Lakeside Trail Loop at Lake Bernard Frank in Rockville, Maryland, is currently covered in snow, transforming it into a stunning winter landscape. I recently explored this 4.5-mile trail, encountering icy paths, snow-covered bridges, and frozen streams. Usually an easy hike, the snow and ice made navigation more challenging, requiring careful footing and reliance on trail markers. The lake is completely frozen, reflecting the winter sun and creating a breathtaking scene reminiscent of Alaska or Canada. Along the way, towering snow-laden trees arched over the path, forming natural tunnels, while partially frozen streams added to the winter charm. The final stretch led past the dam, offering an expansive view of the frozen lake. With temperatures at -10°C, warm winter gear was essential to withstand the cold. This seasonal transformation makes the trail a unique experience, offering a rare opportunity to witness Rockville’s natural beauty in its snow-covered glory.
